Accounts and the launcher in GWonMac
How the GWonMac launcher works: Home, News, the Accounts page, opening several accounts, and what each account keeps to itself.
The launcher is the window you see first. It lists your accounts, opens Guild Wars for each one, and holds the settings that do not belong inside a game window.
Home
Home shows News and Dailies on two tabs. The bottom bar holds the account picker and the main button that opens your accounts.
Dailies lists today's activities, when they change, and a full-week table. The launcher works these out on your Mac, so Dailies also works without a connection.
- Turn on: News and Dailies in Settings → Home screen. Home removes the tab switcher when only one of them is on.
- Open: Home in the launcher's top bar.
- Settings: News, Dailies, First Home tab (shown when both are on). Under News: Guild Wars updates, Upcoming events, GWonMac releases, Rotate featured news.
News
News gathers Guild Wars updates from the Guild Wars Wiki, seasonal events, and GWonMac release notes. Choose a story to read it in the launcher. Open on Guild Wars Wiki or Open on the website opens the full text in your browser.
- Turn on: News in Settings → Home screen.
- Open: News in the launcher's top bar, or a story on Home. All news returns to the list.
- Settings: the news sources listed under Home. Customize on the News page opens them.
- Limits: Beta release notes appear only while the Beta update channel is selected.
Accounts
The Accounts page lists every account with its state: Ready, Open, Opening, or a reason it failed. The count at the top reads, for example, "2 accounts · 1 open".
- Open: Accounts in the launcher's top bar, or Accounts → Manage Accounts… in the menu bar.
Add account
Add account creates another account with its own Guild Wars window. Give it a name (up to 48 characters), and optionally an icon and a colour so you can tell accounts apart at a glance. Sign-in happens inside the game, not in the launcher.
- Open: Add account at the top of the Accounts page.
- Limits: you can add up to 16 accounts. Names must be different from each other.
Play, Show, and opening several accounts
Each account has one game window. Use the buttons on its row to act on that account alone.
- Play opens a closed account.
- Show brings an open account's window to the front.
- Try again retries an account that failed to open.
- Cancel removes an account that is waiting for the game files.
To open several accounts together, tick their check boxes. The main button then reads Open 2 accounts (or the number you ticked). It opens them one after another. An account that is already open is never opened twice. When your only ticked account is already open, the main button reads Show. When several ticked accounts are all open, it reads Accounts are open.
When every ticked account has opened, the launcher hides and the first game window takes focus. If an account fails, the launcher stays visible so you can retry it.
- Open: the Accounts picker in the bottom bar of Home, or the rows on the Accounts page.
- Limits: at least one account stays ticked. Your ticked accounts are remembered for next time.
Edit
Edit changes an account's name, icon, and colour. The new name also appears in the title of its game window.
- Open: Edit on the account's row.
- Settings: Name, Icon, Color. Archive hides an account without deleting its data. An archived account can be restored from Archived accounts at the bottom of the Accounts page.
- Limits: Archive is offered only for an account that is ready or failed, and never for the first account in the list.
Main account
A fresh install starts with one account named Main account. If you used GWonMac before accounts were added, Main account keeps your existing saved login, builds, and game files in place.
You can rename Main account. It is the first account in the list and cannot be archived.
What each account keeps, and what is shared
Each account keeps its own:
- sign-in and saved login (Guild Wars sign-in stays inside each game window);
- game storage;
- build library and templates, for an account you add;
- game window size and position.
All accounts share:
- the Guild Wars game files and their updates;
- GWonMac updates;
- every setting, including Tools and their shortcuts;
- the texture pack you choose.
Closing one game window affects only that account. Closing the last one shows the launcher again.
Accounts menu
The Accounts menu in the menu bar lists your accounts while you play. Each entry shows its state: Open, Waiting, Opening…, or Try again. Choose an open account to show its window, or a ready one to open it. Manage Accounts… opens the Accounts page.
- Open: Accounts in the menu bar.
Window → Show Launcher
When a game window has focus, the launcher may be hidden. Show Launcher brings it back without touching any game. It keeps the page you were on.
- Open: Window → Show Launcher in the menu bar, or right-click the Dock icon and choose Show Launcher. In the Hub, search
launcher.
Quit or Reload Game
⌘ Q does not quit GWonMac straight away. It asks about the game window that has focus. Reload Guild Wars restarts that account with fresh memory. Quit Game closes it. Cancel changes nothing. Other accounts stay open.
Tick Return to my character automatically to sign back in to the same character after a reload. This is the same switch as Return to character after reload in Settings → Game.
Reload is the usual fix for black or corrupted textures and for a game that stutters after a long session. See Known issues.
- Open: ⌘ Q, Quit or Reload Game… in the app menu, View → Reload Guild Wars…, or search
reloadin the Hub. - Limits: it acts on the game window that has focus, or on the only open game. With no game open, nothing happens.
